IMPROVED ILLUMINATION OF THE DENTAL TREATMENT ROOM.
Abstract
The problems of establishing the optimum visual conditions in a dental operating suite were reviewed in detail. These problems, which were analyzed from a technical standpoint, included the light sources available and the surface conditions encountered in such rooms, as well as the equipment and the manner in which it is used. The dual purpose of the site visits, literature review, and interviews was to determine the limitations and to study the concepts in the current state of the art. The requirements for ideal visual conditions were determined. Directions are also given concerning future research to attain the optimum color quality of light which would involve a color temperature of 6,000K and a color rendering index of 95% or more. Finite illumination schemes are also presented as specific means to achieve the optimum illumination for a dental operator interior. (Author)
