DETERMINATION OF THE ASPECT FOR INSTRUMENTS IN A ROCKET PAYLOAD,

Abstract

Equations of motion are developed for describing the attitude of a rocket in terms of the parameters roll, pitch and yaw. The transformation matrix relating the 'uncaged' system of coordinates to the local earth-fixed coordinate system is also found. Computer program listings are also included which permit the user to fit the equations of motion to any particular rocket flight. The programs also permit the user to calculate the orientation of any vector, defined in a coordinate system fixed to the rocket body, in terms of any desired earth-fixed system. The last section illustrates the use of a computer program by fitting the equations of motion to a particular rocket, Aerobee 3.615, and from these results, the aspect for individual instruments is computed.
