THE EFFECT OF FLOW ON INTERCONNECTED THRUST BEARINGS.

Abstract

In self pressurized gas bearings with cylindrical journals and opposed spiral grooved thrust plates, the thrust plates are frequently placed at opposite ends of the journal bearing. The effect of flow along the journal on the thrust stiffness of this type of bearing assembly is shown to be important in some cases. A comparison with some experimental results is included.
