SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION OF A HOMOGENEOUS GAS-AIR COMBUSTIBLE MIXTURE,

Abstract

The authors investigate the combustion process in a combustion chamber, assuming that an exponential relationship exists between reaction rate and the temperature, that the reaction relative to the component which is in insufficient quantity has a first order, that the flow is uniform, and that the heat is removed only by heat transfer to the wall. The differential equation of combustion and heat balance is derived. The calculations are presented in detail. The investigations performed show that disregard of the combustion during the induction period and during the determination of the critical state may lead to inaccurate quantitative results.
