AN INVESTIGATION OF THE TRIMMING BY DIAMOND TIP ULTRASONIC SCRIBING OF NICKEL-CHROMIUM FILM RESISTORS,

Abstract

The report describes the development of a method for the accurate adjustment of thin film resistors to predetermined values. Diamond tip ultrasonic scribing techniques are outlined and experimental results are discussed showing how the wear on the tool tip may be utilized to produce high quality cuts. A comparison of diamond scribing, spark erosion and Laser cutting is made; each method is illustrated by scanning electron micrographs. (Author)
