DIAGNOSIS OF ONE-BINARY-RAIL CASCADES: A SEMIGROUP APPROACH.

Abstract

The diagnosis of one-rail cascades is studied here by making use of some simple results of Semigroup Theory. The problem is studied without any limiting hypothesis about the nature of the faults in the array. The two cases are separately studied when at most one cell can be faulty in the array and when any number of cells can be faulty. In the former case a method is given producing the greatest amount of information about fault location and identification. In the more general case, an algorithm is shown which establishes whether or not the cascade is behaving properly. All these results have been obtained by using only the suggested semigroup model.
