STUDY OF THE APPLICATION OF CODING THEORY.

Abstract

Coding can be used to reduce errors or to compress the signal; the present report concerns the latter application. Several new results are given on constructing word sets, bounding expected word lengths, calculation of source information, use of generalized sequential machines, synchronization, and scanning in one and two dimensions. The report is part of a sequence in which it is hoped to develop a text-book coverage of the field of compression coding. (Author)
