THEORY OF VIBRATIONS OF PLATES AND SHELLS,

Abstract

A comprehensive treatment is presented of the vibrations of plates and shells on the basis of the theory of elasticity as well as the various theories of plates and shells derived from the elasticity theory. The latter theories are always approximate in nature from the standpoint of the former theory, but they may be applied to finite plates and shells much more easily in a practical manner. Whenever possible, results of the plate and shell theories are compared with those of the elasticity theory. Primary concern with the study of the natural frequencies of plates and shells, which may be either single- or multiple-layered. (Author)
