NONLINEAR CAPILLARY-GRAVITY WAVES.

Abstract

In a previous paper we discussed a method for obtaining approximations to the solutions of certain partial differential equations which can be derived from a stationary principle. In this paper we apply this method to a relatively complicated problem--that of nonlinear capillary-gravity waves on a liquid of finite depth. We first consider the problem of linear gravity waves on water of infinite depth, to illustrate both the method and the kind of results we wish to obtain. (Author)
