THUNDERSTORM FORECASTING FOR THE NORTHEAST,
Abstract
In an attempt to aid the forecasters of Detachment 42, 12th Weather Squadron in the forecasting of thunderstorms, an evaluation was made of the Darkow Energy Index system using data of June, July, and August 1968. The results of this evaluation, as well as modifications proposed and their effectiveness, are presented. The goal of the method proposed is to give the forecaster an easily prepared tool which will be useful in determining where, when and how many thunderstorms will occur in the extreme northeastern United States and Canadian Maritimes.
