DEVELOPMENT OF ELECTRON BEAM WELDING TECHNIQUE(S).

Abstract

Techniques were developed for the electron beam welding of end connectors to AM-2 type airfield landing mat extrusions. A portion of a production quantity of AM-2 and a lightweight version of AM-2 was field tested to verify the developed techniques. Program objectives were successfully accomplished, thus demonstrating that the electron beam process will produce joints structurally superior to those produced by the MIG and TIG welding processes. The service life of the joint substantially exceeds that of the mat extrusion. (Author)
