THE FERMI SURFACE OF METALS AND OF DILUTE ALLOYS OF BERYLLIUM.

Abstract

A de Haas-van Alphen study of the Fermi surface of Be and its dilute alloys with Cu is described, together with a successful parameterization of their band structure based on a non-local pseudopotential model. Strain and temperature dependence of this model are included to illustrate its versatility. Preliminary results on the Fermi surface of the unusually brittle intermetallic compound MgCu2 and on the use of the RF size effect to study electron mean-free-path effects are presented. Cyclotron resonance studies in very high purity Mg are summarized. (Author)
