DATA TRANSMISSION LINK ANALYSIS,

Abstract

The problems associated with selecting a sampling rate, a coding format, a modulation technique and a means of providing bit, word, and frame synchronization are discussed for digital data transmission on an SST. Alternate techniques are considered and traded-off in terms of minimizing signal-to-noise requirements, probability of true and false sync, and ease of implementation. The results are dependent on the accuracy requirements, input characteristics, and means of interpolation of data. For the given data requirements and characteristics, the following recommendations are made: frame rate = 90 frames per second; discriminator FSK as the modulation technique; a hybrid sync technique; and a 33 bit frame sync word.
