ANALYSIS OF IONOSPHERIC DRIFTS OBSERVED AT DIFFERENT LATITUDES.

Abstract

Drift observations by the Krautkramer method from Dapango (Togo), Mayaguez (Puerto Rico) and Freiburg (Germany) are analyzed and compared after reduction to quarterly statistics. Near the magnetic equator the drift shows continuous changes of the direction so that it is not entirely zonal. At low temperate latitude the solar diurnal component is the most important one; absolute speed values are considerable smaller than at higher temperate latitude. The predominant rotational sense of the semidiurnal components is always right hand at higher latitude but becomes left handed at lower temperate latitude in summer and fall. (Author)
