RUST-RESISTANT WHEAT VARIETIES,

Abstract

The progress in development of rust-resistant strains of wheat during the past thirty years is outlined. Varieties which have proved successful are enumerated. Work now in progress in developing new varieties is discussed. It is concluded that selection of resistant wheat varieties is a satisfactory basic method of combating rust; resistant varieties should be developed for each ecological zone; phytopathology should play an active role in this process.
