THE APPLICATION OF MULTISTABLE ELEMENTS IN MULTISTATE DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS,

Abstract

A complete system of functions of k-valued logic required for practical applications of multistable logic elements in computing or automatic control systems based on multistate logic (e.g., decimal) is explained. Though at the present time there is no criterion of completeness of such a complement, several workers have developed complete systems of functions. Among the most important are those of Post, Rosset and Tewkett, and Webb. The authors briefly review each of these systems which are based on the pulse position modulation and are thus simple and reliable. (Author)
