PROBLEMS OF AUTOMATIC READING AND CONVERSION OF SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION AT THE INPUT OF INFORMATION RETRIEVAL SYSTEMS,

Abstract

Some of the problems associated with the initial handling of scientific information before it is fed into an information storage and retrieval system and block diagrams of hypothetical systems are considered. The problem has the following aspects: (1) establishing the value of the initial information and extracting portions to be stored; (2) recording of information on storage carriers for prolonged storage (magnetic tapes, punch tapes, punch cards, photographic film or other forms of storage); (3) operational access to information storage and retrieval systems; (4) feeding texts into machine translation systems.
