DEEP-SEATED STRUCTURE OF THE URALS AND ADJACENT REGIONS (Glubinnaya Struktura Urala i Sopredelnykh Regionov),

Abstract

The work discusses the data put forth by several scientists regarding the deep-seated structure of the Urals and adjacent areas. A joint analysis of these schemes and data of deep seismic soundings carried out in recent years show considerable basic discrepancies. In computing the depths of occurence of the M surface the authors used either too general correlations between regional anomalies of gravity field and the earth crust thickness compiled for larte areas of the country, or correlations compiled for small regions were used for studying the structure of the earth crust of a large area. The peculiarities in the structure of the earth crust, inherent to some regions, was not taken into consideration. An accepted point of view, explaining the giological development of the earth crust is discussed. (Author)
