ON THE SPHEROIDAL FUNCTIONS OF THE FIRST KIND,

Abstract

A number of new properties of the spheroidal functions of the first kind of arbitrary order alpha <-1 are established, including double orthogonality over two separate intervals simultaneously and the existance of a new kind of characteristic numbers gamma sub(alpha n) that arise from it. A comprehensive collection of computational formulas are derived and a few numerical results are shown. (Author)
