STABILITY OF ELASTIC SYSTEMS,

Abstract

The axial compression of thin elastic cylindric shells is investigated under critical loading with special emphasis on possible upper and lower critical load limits. The concept is illustrated by calculating the critical load on two straight rigid links connected by an elastic hinge and simply supported at their lower ends. Calculations show that the minimum load at which equilibrium is lost depends inversely on the rigidity of the system.
