AUTOMATIC MACHINE FOR READING TYPEWRITTEN TEXTS,

Abstract

An automatic reading machine is described. The equipment is designed to read typewritten texts in order to feed them into the Ural-4 computer when making literature survey problems and when processing certain forms of statistical information. The characters are recognized in this reading machine by a method which compares the unknown character with a set of fixed image field regions (the method of fragments). There is a block diagram of the system shown in the text. Tests have shown that the average reliability of this automatic reading machine is 0.995.
