CERTAIN PROBLEMS IN ESTIMATE AND SELECTION OF OPERATIONAL BUILT-IN CONTROL SYSTEM IN COMPUTER DESIGN,

Abstract

The automatic hardware checkout reduces the time of fault detection and localization and augments the certainty of output information. However, additional equipment, which makes the hardware checkout possible, generally tends to reduce the computer reliability and to increase its cost. Hence, an optimal amount of equipment exists. The optimal system is evaluated on two criteria: certainty of information and faultless operation of computer. Formulas for probability of malfunctions and of correct operation are examined. An algorithm for evaluating each version of the hardware-checkout system of a digital computer during its planning stage is developed. (Author)
