MESO-CENOZOIC HISTORY AND CRUSTAL STRUCTURE OF THE OKHOTSK REGION (Mezo-Kainozoiskaya Istoriya i Stroenie Zemnoi Kory Okhotskogo Regiona),

Abstract

The work represents the results of the first stage of geological-geophysical studies of the Okhotsk region. The basic aim was the construction of a tectonic scheme of the region, the explanation of the history of development of the different structural zones, as well as the character of the depth structure of the earth's crust. In the second part of the study, the intention is to analyze in detail the properties of magnetic manifestations and their connections with the character and history of development of basic tectonic structures. On the basis of geological and geophysical data, a new scheme of the tectonic zonation of the floor of the Sea of Okhotsk and adjacent land compartments is suggested. Investigations of the structural features of the earth's crust of regions with a different history of geological development and depth structure prove that in this section of the western part of the Pacific Ocean a gradual increase of the continent is taking place through the compartments of the oceanic floor being drawn into the geosynclinal process and due to the formation of the 'granitic' layer of the earth's crust during this process.
