DISTRIBUTION STUDIES OF THE FORMATION OF Cu2(C2H5COO)4(C2H5COOH)2 IN CHLOROFORM,

Abstract

The distribution of 64Cu (II) between chloroform and water as a function of the concentrations of propionic acid (C2H5COOH = HA), sodium propionate and copper propionate has been studied at 25C. Plots of log(Cu)org versus log(CuA2) for different HA concentrations that the chloroform phase extracts Cu(II) as a dimer and a plot of log(Cu)org versus log(HA) shows that the extracted species is Cu2A4(HA)2.
