ABO ANTIBODIES. I. METHODS FOR QUANTIFICATION OF ABO HEMOLYSINS AND SOLUBLE BLOOD GROUP SUBSTANCES A AND B.

Abstract

Two technics for the quantitative measurement of ABO hemolysins are described. The first involves the determination of the serum dilution which, in the presence of excess complement, lyses 50% of a standard red cell suspension (QH50). The second measures the concentration of red cell suspension, at which 50% of the cells are lysed by undiluted serum (CH50). Two technics for the quantitative measurement of blood group substances A and B are also described. The first is based on hemolysin inhibition, the second on hemagglutination inhibition. By comparison with reference standard materials containing known amounts of SBGS, various biologic fluids and proprietary drug products have been assayed for their content of A and B substances.
