EVALUATION OF LOW COST ALUMINUM ALLOY GRANULES FOR USE IN ALUMINIZED EXPLOSIVES

Abstract

This report covers the evaluation of low cost aluminum alloy granules for use in aluminized explosives, i.e. Tritonal, DESTEX and H-6. The alloy was evaluated with respect to its effects on batching characteristics, composition uniformity, thermal stability and impact sensitivity of the explosive systems. A comparison was made of the alloy and currently used atomized aluminum with respect to particle size and chemical composition.
