RECOGNITION OF SELF-LUMINOUS OBJECTS WITH PENCIL-BEAM BRIGHTNESS IN A SCATTERING MEDIUM,

Abstract

The authors examine the problem of relative sizes of self-luminous objects and their detectors, if the objects are to be recognized. Previous experiments have been conducted solely with the receiver size much greater than object size. The present authors have conducted experiments on model systems characterizing the probability of persistence of a light quantum and a coefficient of asymmetry of the scattering indicatrix of unit volume at different optical thicknesses.
