KINETICS OF THE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF PROPANE,

Abstract

The paper reports results obtained from analysis of temperature data related to kinetics of the decomposition of propane under continuous flow operational conditions. The constants obtained by a graphic method, on the basis of experimental and literature values, are reported. The data plotted on a logarithmic scale showed the same straight-line variation in the reaction rate over time for six different temperatures. The values for the reaction rate constant of propane, in the range of 973 degrees K to 1173 degrees K and contact time of 0.005 to 50 sec obtained experimentally, agree well with the calculated values.
