THE USE OF TRUCK-TRAILER COMBINATIONS SHOULD BE EXPANDED,

Abstract

A USSR decree was that general-purpose truck transport should increase 1.7 times. This means a corresponding increase in the number of driver, repair and service, technician and administrative personnel. The author suggests a direction in planning which would reduce an undesirable expansion of the personnel force - more tractor-trailer combinations should be built. Specialized trucks for use at only certain periods of the year could be replaced by specialized trailers. Truck-tractors adapted from existing stake-bed truck models are apparently not adequate since most models have only one drive axle instead of two or more, the tractor bed device is often raised higher above the road surface causing a corresponding raising of the center of gravity, and many models do not have dual wheels.
