VACUUM TUBE RESEARCH PROJECT.

Abstract

Design of a plasma amplifier for verifying growing waves in plasma was initiated. Numerical solution of the thin beam M-type backward wave oscillator equation for start oscillation was completed and the results presented. A range of parameters was considered which is thought to be adequate for all backward wave oscillators, except that circuit loss is assumed to be zero. The large signal theory of M-type traveling wave interaction including space charge is being formulated. Improved stabilization of a K-band klystron for use as local oscillator in a receiver for Maser noise figure measurements was accomplished. Construction of a second 1400 mc low noise traveling wave amplifier was completed and tested. (Author)
