VACUUM TUBE RESEARCH PROJECT.
Abstract
A mercury arc discharge tube was constructed to study transmission of a high voltage (500-1000 V) beam of electrons. It was constructed in such a way that if transmission through the arc is satisfactory, it may be possible to obtain plasma amplification. The slipping stream analysis was specialized to the thin beam limit and it was shown that it is in agreement with the simplified non-slipping stream analysis presented in the last few quarterly reports in all details which the latter analysis purports to describe. Thus both analyses describe the same physical process. A brief resume is given of the approach to the large signal analysis of linear M-type devices. Another low noise 1400 mc traveling wave tube was completed and tested. (Author)
