SOLUTIONS OF DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS FOR THERMAL-STRESS ANALYSIS OF A SPHERICAL NOSECAP.

Abstract

General solutions for the shearing-stress resultant and change in slope of a nosecap wall are obtained and described. These are the basic functions that are required in the calculation of thermal stresses. They are obtained in the form of infinite series. Particular solutions for the two functions are obtained also. Sets of coefficients for the series are determined from recurrence formulas that are well suited to computer programming. In numerical work, two-hundred terms were employed in each sum to evaluate it at several points along the span of the nosecap.
