Abstract

A survey is presented of the existing methods in the search for transportation alternatives available in highway and traffic flow literature. Some of the major papers and methodological ideas are described in detail to bring out important trends in the design of transportation systems. The major limitations of the existing methodologies are described and a short discussion is given on normative, comprehensive search methods. (Author)
