MANUAL FOR THE RESPONSE OF STRUCTURAL MEMBERS. VOLUME II.

Abstract

This is a manual of solutions for the static, stability, and dynamic response of a large class of structural members and mechanical elements with arbitrary geometry and loading. The line-solution (transfer matrix, initial parameter) method is used throughout the manual to systematically provide solutions which are suitable for computational implementation. The manual contains a documented computer code, including an optional time-sharing version, designed for use in conjunction with the manual to obtain solutions to all of the problem types considered. The structural members and mechanical elements treated include strings, bars, spring mass systems, beams, thin-walled beams, arches, membranes, plates, gridworks, thick shells, thin shells, and simple frames. They are represented by classical theories of linear elasticity and strength of materials. The materials may be elastic or viscoelastic, the geometries are basically those of classical structural members with arbitrary cross section, and the thermal and mechanical loadings may be given deterministic or statistical characterization.
