STRESS WAVE PROPAGATION IN A PRESTRESSED MEDIUM.

Abstract

Photoelastic calibration experiments were performed on 1/8 inch thick sheets of Pyrex and Plexiglas to determine the apparent colors of these materials when stressed and viewed in white light in a circular polariscope. The results of dynamic strain gage experiments show that clearly defined P wave radiation patterns are emitted from explosive sources in stressed sheets of Pyrex and Plexiglas. (Author)
