GAGES FOR MEASURING DEFORMATION OF HIGHLY ELASTIC MATERIALS,

Abstract

Two types of gages for measuring tensile, flexural, and torsional strain are discussed. The contact gage is designed for measuring static and dynamic deformations of polymers, for which it has accuracies of 20 millimicrons and 50 millimicrons, respectively, on a base of up to 75 mm. Its operating temperature range is 20-200C. The inductive gage is designed for measuring and recording static and slowly varying dynamic deformations. It has a minimum measurement and recording range of 1 mm for accuracy of 0.01 mm. Its advantages are simplicity, 50-Hz power, and linear response. (Author)
