A STUDY OF VISION AS RELATED TO DARK ADAPTATION AND NIGHT VISION IN THE SOLDIER

Abstract

The report was prepared to provide the Army Research Office with a summarization of recent advances in the understanding of dark adaptation and night vision capability. The scope of the study included: current knowledge of the biochemical and physiological aspects of dark adaptation and night vision, the role of nutrition as it affects dark adaptation, pharmacologically induced alterations of night vision, the effects of smoking and noxious environmental agents on night vision, and individual variability in dark adaptation and night vision capacity.
