BATTLE SIMULATOR VIDEO TARGET MODULE.
Abstract
One approach to the problem of Naval weapon system evaluation and training is the hardware simulation of radar return signals, including targets, noise, ECM, and background. When target returns are simulated, the exact position of each target at any time is known and can be used as a reference to compare with the position generated by the equipment or personnel. The Target Module section of the Target Generation System for the APL Battle Simulator is described in detail, and information is provided for the operation, maintenance, and fabrication of this section of the equipment. The Target Module accepts digital data words from a data input source and simulated radar system and generates target video signals and associated attenuation signals. The output represents the target video in range, bearing, and elevation. Included in the report are descriptions of all electrical circuits used in its fabrication along with their associated drawings. (Author)
