THE EFFECT OF A PLATING LAYER ON THE CORROSION STABILITY OF SINTERED ALUMINUM POWDER (SAP),

Abstract

It is demonstrated that AMn alloy cannot be used to plate sintered aluminum powder SAP-1, SAP-2, SAP-3 and SAP-4 materials used under extreme corrosion conditions (sea water, fog) since it intensifies the corrosion. Alloys such as Al plus 5-6 percent Si and Al plus 1 percent Zn cannot be used for plating because of low corrosion stability. The high corrosion stability characteristic of the SAP material is retained only during plating with ADl or with an aluminum alloy with 0.8-1.0 percent Mg. Pressed SAP-1, SAP-2 and SAP-3 material and sheet SAP-1 material do not exhibit tendency to corrode under tension.
