COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR SEDIMENT TEXTURAL ANALYSIS.

Abstract

A comprehensive program for the textural analysis of grouped sediment data, including sieved and pipetted samples, is presented. This program, designed for small computers, converts the raw weights of size-graded sediment into weight percents, cumulative percents, and a frequency histogram. Computed statistics include: percents of gravel, sand, silt, and clay for lithofacies analysis; and mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis, computed by the methods of moments, Trask, Inman, and Folk and Ward. The program is advantageous because of the ease with which each sample may be evaluated, and the four common methods of computing textural parameters may be compared. (Author)
