A FLUIDIC, STACKED MAIL COUNTER,

Abstract

The feasibility of counting vertically stacked letters in standard mail racks with the use of a fluidic sensing and counting system was investigated. A description of the system, the test program conducted, and innovations employed to increase the system accuracy are given. Feasibility was demonstrated, using ordered mail with 0.011-in. edge thickness where the counter accuracy was found to be 96 percent at a count rate of approximately 100 letters per second. (Author)
