POISSON COEFFICIENT OF POLYMER MATERIALS AS A FUNCTION OF THE STRESS-STRAIN STATE,

Abstract

Computations are made of the effect of stress in the physical nonlinearity of a material and in a shear stress which brings about considerable changes in the initial shape of the body, on the Poisson rates of polymer materials. It is pointed out that physical nonlinearity in polymer materials substantially affects the Poisson ratio. Under large deformation, the Poisson ratio is a function of deformation. A formula is derived for the experimental determination of the Poisson ratio under large deformations.
