GREAT SIGNIFICANCE FOR ROCKET DYNAMICS OF SOVIET SUCCESS IN LAUNCHING SPACESHIP,

Abstract

The paper cites, in a popularized fashion, a series of technical problems in the design of a rocket engine. High energy chemical fuels such as liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen or liquid oxygen and liquid fluorine should be used to raise the unit thrust to 380-400 kg-sec/kg. (Large thrust rockets are possible if a multi-stage rocket is used; a stage consists of several bundles of rockets and each bundle consists of several combustion chambers). Pulsating combustion is a very complicated problem to solve. (Author)
