EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS FROM A PULSED PLASMA ACCELERATOR WITH RAIL ELECTRODES.

Abstract

The report presents the results of experiments carried out on a pulsed plasma accelerator, with rail electrodes and driven by a capacitor discharge, to determine the nature of the acceleration mechanisms. The motion of the plasma was recorded optically and magnetically and a graph constructed to describe the plasma motion. The electrical characteristics of the capacitor discharge were also recorded. The results are discussed and some possible acceleration mechanisms suggested. (Author)
