THE OXIDATION OF ARSENIC (III) AND ANTIMONY (III).

Abstract

The kinetics of the Cr(VI)-As(III) reaction have been investigated in H2PO4(-)-HPO4= buffers. Complex kinetics have been obtained. The rate law found is first order in total Cr(VI) and As(III) with a complex dependence upon buffer composition. The data point to the reaction proceeding via two activated complexes, (H2PO4(-) . HCrO4(-) . As(III)) and (HPO4(-) . HCrO4(-) . As(III)).
