THE RANGE MODEL.

Abstract

The problem of initial support planning for new weapon systems is formulated as a three state parameter sequential decision process. A return function is defined in terms of the life cycle cost effects of the decision selected in each state. A technique is supplied for the treatment of fixed costs that avoids the problems involved in allocation and incremental costing. A step by step solution algorithm is described, providing a technique to obtain life cycle cost estimates, logistic resource requirements by echelon, and optimum repair procedures, from a basic engineering description of the hardware and knowledge of the cost and policy structure of the operating logistics system.
