LARGE SIGNAL COMPUTER ANALYSIS OF DISTORTION IN TRAVELING WAVE TUBES.

Abstract

In the present paper the signal distortion (compression and AM-to-PM conversion) in the large signal region, including the saturation range, is studied by means of computer experiments. The disc model of the confined electron beam is used. The calculations are based on a recent analytical field theory of the small and medium signal distortion in TWTs. The method of the calculations is described in Appendices A, B and C. Nonlinear analytic theories, describing signal distortion, have been developed. These theories are restricted to low and medium signal levels. Computer experiments can be performed at any signal level and have been used to study the maximum output power from TWTs. (Author)
