RESISTIVE DRIFT WAVES IN AN INHOMOGENEOUS ADIABATIC PLASMA.

Abstract

The propagation of drift waves in an inhomogeneous plasma immersed in a strong magnetic field has been studied. The analysis is based on a macroscopic two-fluid model. Electron inertia and finite resistivity are taken into account. The equilibrium configuration is characterized by a density gradient perpendicular to the magnetic field. The dispersion relation for the normal modes is derived under the assumption of adiabatic behavior of the plasma. (Author)
