THE FLUTTER OF A CYLINDRICAL SHELL OF ELLIPTICAL CROSS SECTION,

Abstract

The dynamic stability of an orthotropic elliptic cylinder of finite length in a supersonic gas stream is examined. The coordinate along the axis of the cylinder and the central angle are used as the generalized curvilinear coordinates of the middle surface. The principal radii of curvature and the Lame coefficients are given. The Ritz method is used, and the displacements are sought in the form of double trigonometric series. Each term in the series satisfies all conditions of hinging at the ends. The characteristic equation is studied numerically on an M-20 computer. (Author)
