SYNTHESIS AND STUDY OF LACTATES AS LOW-HYGROSCOPIC BRAKE FLUID COMPONENTS.

Abstract

The object of the work was to synthesize and study a series of esters of lactic acid as potential components of low hygroscopic brake fluids. Six diesters and nine monoesters were prepared via modified Fischer esterification. They were subjected to screening tests reported herein. None proved entirely satisfactory, although some of the lactates exhibited properties which may be desirable in blending. (Author)
